Woodfields' Holiday Season Mostly Happens Within Walking Distance. Here's the 2026 Calendar, Nearest First.

The Ocala Christmas Parade starts at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, at SE 25th Avenue and Fort King Street. From there it heads north to East Silver Springs Boulevard and runs 1.6 miles west to NE 8th Avenue. Then it turns north and ends at NE 3rd Street, just before Tuscawilla Park. Visitors come from all over the county to line the boulevard. On the Woodfields side, the last block of the route is just a few streets from home.

The whole downtown holiday season works that way. Tuscawilla Park, City Hall on SE Watula Avenue, the Downtown Square and Citizens' Circle surround the Historic District, and that's where nearly every major event between now and mid-December happens. The exceptions are a few events far out on East Fort King Street and East Silver Springs Boulevard. Sort the calendar by distance and almost all of it is walkable from Woodfields.

The parade's finish line is a neighborhood landmark

This year's Christmas Parade theme is "A Red, White, and Blue Christmas, in honor of America's 250th birthday." Visit Ocala/Marion says the parade has been an Ocala tradition for more than 60 years and that more than 60,000 people line Silver Springs Boulevard to watch it. It also says the best spots fill up early.

Most of those 60,000 people arrive by car and look for parking. From Woodfields, NE 8th Avenue and the NE 3rd Street finish near Tuscawilla Park are a walk. The parade's official site sends readers to a City of Ocala Facebook post for road-closure details, so check it before deciding when to leave the house.

The December 12 parade is the season's biggest night, and most of the calendar before it builds toward that finish.

October ends on the Square

The 59th Annual Ocala Arts Festival, better known as FAFO, takes over the Downtown Ocala Square at 1 SE Broadway St. this weekend, October 24 and 25. It's free and runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It's the first of several weekends this fall when the Square is the place to be, and from Woodfields you can get there on foot.

The night before FAFO is the first exception. The City's free After Dark in the Park screening of Young Frankenstein is Friday, October 23, at the Fort King National Historic Landmark, 3925 E. Fort King St. Pre-movie activities run 6 to 6:45 p.m., and the film starts at 7. It's the same street many Woodfields homes sit on, just several miles east, so plan on driving.

November builds toward Light Up Ocala

November has three downtown events within reach of the district before the big one, plus one short drive:

  • First Friday Art Walk, November 6, starting at 6 p.m. on the Downtown Square.
  • Sunset Songs with Kendall Street Company, November 13, 7 to 9 p.m., at Citizens' Circle, 151 SE Osceola Ave. The series is free, with food trucks and beer and wine for sale.
  • The Thanksgiving Play at the Ocala Civic Theatre, with dated performances through November 14 and tickets listed at $17 to $40.
  • Free First Saturday at the Appleton Museum of Art, November 7, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with free admission, family artmaking and a film screening.

The Appleton is at 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd., another drive. Its holiday exhibition, "A Dickens Christmas: The Urban Family's Holiday Exhibition," opens the same day and runs through January 10, 2027. Since the exhibition lasts more than two months, you can pick a quiet weekday instead of the busy opening.

Then comes Light Up Ocala on Saturday, November 21, from 3 to 8 p.m. downtown, with the lighting ceremony at 6. The City says this is the event's 42nd year. It's free and promises more than 100 vendors, live entertainment, a kids' zone and the Junior Sunshine holiday parade with Santa. The 2026 shuttle details haven't been posted yet; the City's page says only to "stay tuned for updates for 2026." Past shuttles from Marion Technical Institute at 1614 SE Fort King St. dropped riders between SE Watula Avenue and SE Third Street. That drop-off is the edge of the Historic District, the same spot many Woodfields households can reach on foot.

December 4 to 6 is the busiest weekend

Here are the three days, in order:

  1. Friday, December 4, 6 p.m.: First Friday Art Walk on the Downtown Square.
  2. Friday, December 4, 7 p.m.: Symphony Under the Lights at Tuscawilla Park, next to the Reilly Arts Center. It's a free holiday concert by the Ocala Symphony Orchestra and the Ocala Youth Symphony, and listings suggest bringing chairs, a blanket and hot chocolate.
  3. Saturday, December 5: The 8th Annual Downtown Ocala Christmas Golf Cart Parade starts at City Hall, 110 SE Watula Ave. All proceeds benefit the Fostering Foundation of Florida.
  4. Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6: Pop! Goes the Holidays! at the Reilly Arts Center, 500 NE 9th St., with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra leading festive sing-alongs.
  5. Sunday, December 6, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.: The Ocala Christmas Market at the Ocala Downtown Market, 403 SE Ocala Ave. Admission and pictures with Santa are both free.

The same weekend also has two drive-out events. The Festival at Fort King runs December 4 through 6, starting at 10 a.m. each day at the Fort King National Historic Landmark. On Saturday, December 5, the Appleton holds its free Holiday Community Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the decorated trees, a Dickens miniature village, photos with Santa and food trucks on site. On a weekend this full, it can help to do the two eastern stops in daylight and be back near Tuscawilla Park and City Hall for the evening events.

The second weekend in December

Friday, December 11, has two free events a few blocks apart. The City is showing Rise of the Guardians at Tuscawilla Park at 7:30 p.m., with hot cocoa. Over at Citizens' Circle, blues guitarist Selwyn Birchwood plays Sunset Songs from 7 to 9 p.m. Dance Alive National Ballet's The Nutcracker opens at the Reilly the same night and runs through December 14, with 7 p.m. performances. The Ocala Civic Theatre's A Christmas Carol runs December 9 through 20. Saturday brings the Christmas Parade and its finish just before Tuscawilla Park.

There are new places to eat between events this year. The Forge, the dining complex at 343 NE 1st Ave. that we covered in our summer look at what was opening near Woodfields, soft-opened in July. A September tenant list from Only in Ocala names The Blind Eye, Ignite, The Hammock, Parting Lines Pizza, Just Desserts, Pastry Planet, Dear Jack Coffee and Leaf & Vine. On the other side of the Square, Only in Ocala reported that First Avenue Bar & Bistro expected to open in early-to-mid October at 48 SW 1st Ave., in the former La Cuisine space. The outlet said the timing depended on state inspections. Check whether it's open before building a dinner plan around it.

For guests who drive in, the City says Parking Garage No. 2 is now open downtown, with entrances on SW Second and SW Third avenues.

Dates still to be announced

Some December traditions that matter most to the Historic District haven't posted their 2026 details yet.

The Historic Ocala Preservation Society's Holiday Home Tour still shows its 2025 listing, which was December 6, 2025, from 2 to 8 p.m. in Ocala's Southeast Historic District. Presale tickets were $30 and day-of tickets were $35. Watch that page for this year's date.

The golf cart parade's 2026 listing gives only the date and the City Hall starting point, and Visit Ocala/Marion points people to the Ocala Golf Cart Club's Facebook page for updates. Last year gives a rough idea. Ocala-News.com reported that the 2025 parade mostly followed SE 5th Street, with viewing spots at the Historic Downtown Square, Walker Park, SE 5th Street and Scotty Andrews Park. 352today reported that carts left City Hall at 6 p.m. after a 4 p.m. gathering in the City Hall parking lot. Last year's registration page required headlights, lights, turn signals and a windshield, and it banned throwing candy. WCJB reported a $50 entry fee. Any of those details could change for 2026.
